Highways of Bergen County, New Jersey

Bergen County Road 124 is part of the old Hackensack Plank Road, which connected Hackensack with Hoboken. Other parts of the old road include a section still named Hackensack Plank Road in Weehawken; 32nd Street in Union City; Bergen Turnpike in North Bergen; and Tonnelle Avenue and Broad Avenue in North Bergen and Ridgefield.

For a time, there was a bridge crossing the Hackensack River and connecting the two sections of road (the bridge that replaced a little ferry and gave Little Ferry its name). However, it was washed out many years ago and never replaced because the bridge that carries US 46 over the river is very close by.

CR 124 was also part of the old (pre-1928) NJ 10 which carried traffic from Paterson to Edgewater. Other Bergen County stretches of this road include CR 56 between the Passaic River and the courthouse in Hackensack; a half-mile of US 1/9 in Ridgefield; and all of NJ 5.

From US 1/9 to Teaneck Road, the highway is also signed as part of primary route 17.
