The Rutherford Little League and the Rutherford Recreation Department enter into a historic agreement under which, after 60 years of successfully operating a youth baseball program, Rutherford Little League becomes the program coordinator for Recreation girls’ softball. Under the partnership, girls’ softball remains a Recreation Department program, but the Rutherford Little League charters the teams as Little League Softball teams. Players continue to register through the Recreation Department, which recommends the coaches and allocates fields. Rutherford Little League prepares the practice and game schedules, organizes tryouts, and sets the rules for each level in accordance with Little League regulations.

The League introduces a new award to honor Andrew Ortega, a Rutherford Little Leaguer and tournament player who died suddenly Saturday 28-Aug-2010 at age 13. The Andrew J. Ortega Sportsmanship Award is presented annually to the players who show the best qualities that Andrew demonstrated during his time in youth sports in Rutherford.

The League adjusts its playoff format for the Major League, implementing a season head-to-head tie-break to determine the league champion in the case of a tie for first place, and adding similar tie-break procedures to limit the playoffs to three teams in each league (American and National). All teams continue to qualify for the playoffs in Triple-A Baseball and in Junior, Major and Minor Softball.
