USA Baseball changes the league age determination date from 31-Jul to 30-Apr. This makes numerous players eligible for an additional season in Little League. The League rules that no player is required to play more than one season of Tee Ball or two seasons of the coach-pitched Double-A league.

In response to nationwide concerns about players throwing too many pitches, Rutherford Little League adopts its own program to limit pitches thrown. The rule is subsequently replaced by a national rule in 2007.

Cody McCallum of Van Winkle hits safely in his first five games of the season, extending his hitting streak to a league-record 27 regular-season games and breaking a mark set by Sean Irving in 1988. McCallum’s streak, broken in 2017, encompassed the last six games of 2004 and the entire 2005 season.
