Highways of Bergen County, New Jersey

County Road 34

Bergen County Road 34, formerly S-32, Union Avenue, is widely regarded as the oldest road in Rutherford. Historians say the path was used by Native Americans until the 17th century.

A narrow steel bridge over the Passaic River that was used from 1896 to 2000 was recently replaced. The current structure opened in 2002. Signage to the road from NJ 21 erroneously labeled the road CR 32; however, the sign has been missing for many years.
