Mayo Field

Quick Facts:
Mayo Field, like most everything else in Rochester, is named for the doctor who settled here in 1864 and began a physician practice that evolved into the world-renowned Mayo Clinic. Its main campus is located less than a mile from this field; several members of the Mayo family are buried in a cemetery beyond left field.

For most of its existence, Mayo Field has been an amateur ballpark. Indeed, today its primary tenant is the Rochester Honkers of the college summer Northwoods League. However, the park has seen two brief turns in professional ball. In 1958, a team in the Three-I League split time between Winona, Iowa, and Rochester; thirty-five years later, when the Northern League was reconstituted as an independent league, the Aces resided here for one season.
