Quick Facts:
Carpenter Field, owned by the city of Clearwater but largely financed by a loan from the Philadelphia Phillies, opened in 1967 as the minor league complex for the Phillies, who then used Jack Russell Stadium, three miles to the west, as their major league spring training site. The club’s facilities got closer in 2004, when the Phillies (and their Florida State League team, which renamed itself the Clearwater Threshers) inaugurated their new ballpark immediately adjacent to the Carpenter Complex.

While the Carpenter Complex has plenty of amenities for the Phillies, including a year-round air-conditioned training center that opened in 2013, one thing it does not have is shaded bleachers for spectators. A limited amount of shade is available alongside a building connecting the practice fields and dedicated to former Phillies farm director Paul Owens.
