A four-run fifth inning spelled the end of Rutherford American’s district title hopes, as Saddle Brook American went on to win, 6-4.
Vince Silio, winning pitcher Ed Adamcik, and Mike Nastase all singled off Bill Wilde to load the bases. Ed Freay then doubled and Bob Barno singled to drive in the four runs.
Rutherford took a 2-0 lead over the first two innings, but Fred Graf homered for Saddle Brook in the top of the third to halve the margin. Nick Tria extended the lead to 4-1 with his two-run homer in the bottom of the third.
