Manager Bill Indyk’s Americans advanced to the sectional finals by topping Ridgefield, 8-1, in a semifinal game. Nick Tria slammed two home runs in the game, Ben Calvitti belted one and Guy Indyk pitched a three-hitter.
After giving up a leadoff home run to Ben Winter, Indyk settled down and blanked Ridgefield the rest of the way as he struck out eight while walking only two.
Tria’s two home runs accounted for three of Rutherford’s runs. Calvitti knocked in two more with his homer plus a double. Gus Boisits went three-for-three in the winners’ nine-hit attack.
