The Rutherford American Little League All Stars were ousted from tournament play last Thursday evening at Garfield by the Lyndhurst American Little League All Stars 2-1.
This gave the Lyndhurst team the right to meet the Lodi National Little League All Stars on Friday night for the District 5 championship.
Lyndhurst scored a run in the top of the first inning. Rutherford tied it up in the bottom of the second. Then Lou Passaro opened the Lyndhurst fourth with a single, the first hit off Rutherford’s starting pitcher Ed Young.
Passaro was forced at second, but John Daly, winning pitcher Richie Ruggiero, and Joe Cantrella had consecutive singles, the last scoring Russo with what proved to be the winning run.
