After rushing all week to determine a Little League champion which could meet Clifton today in the Bergen-Passaic tournament at Lyndhurst’s Little League stadium, Rutherford’s Little League officials were informed late last night by the sponsors of the tourney that their game has been put off until Monday.

The Rotary club won the special Kiwanis-Rotary tilt held yesterday to qualify for the Lyndhurst tourney, but the sponsors of the event were unable to arrange the Rutherford-Clifton game until Monday.

Wednesday afternoon, Rotary topped Kiwanis 11-9 in a non-league contest to determine the local tourney entrant. It was one of the sloppiest games played all year as nine fielding errors were recorded, and the six players who took the mound during the six-inning contest combined to give up a total of twenty-one bases on balls.

Both teams came up with a big inning apiece, but the Rotary put on an early scoring spurt and hung on throughout the game to come out the victors. Rotary took a 3-0 lead in the first, but the Kiwanis erased that by pushing across six runs in a big second inning surge sparked hits by Reardon and Wisloff.

Rotary came right back with six in their second led by a grand slam home run by shortstop Danny Luke.

The Kiwanis tried to get back in the game with a pair in the third, but Rotary hung on to the lead scoring single tallies in the third and fourth and weathering a Kiwanis rally that brought in one run in the fifth.

Bob Ross led the batwork for the day with a big three for three, while two of the Rotary’s six bingles were collected by Rye Alyea.

The game didn’t count in the league standings, but was run off strictly to discover a representative to the Lyndhurst tourney. The Rotary will journey to Lyndhurst Monday evening to take on the Clifton All Stars.
