A sixteen hit Kiwanis attack, plus the masterful three hit hurling of Usher was enough to gain the Kiwanis a tight 6-4 triumph over the Rotary Club in Rutherford’s first official Little League contest, Thursday.

Usher fanned eleven Rotarians in his six inning mound stint, and was touched for only three bingles although four runs were charged against the Kiwanian hurler.

Shortstop Ross led the Kiwanis attack as he hit safely three times in four official at-bats. Papa, Usher, Gannon, Dorman, Burns and Reardon all accounted for two safeties for the winners, while the middle of the Rotarian batting order, Hands, Floyd, and Alyea accounted for the three Rotary bingles.

Kiwanis started things off with three tallies in the first, and registered aces in the third, fifth and sixth. The Rotary came back with three big runs in the fifth and one in the sixth and final frame, but couldn’t push enough across to gain the tie.

Cole was charged with the loss for the Rotary.
