Erupting with a twelve run fifth inning, the Kiwanis nine overwhelmed Pastore Builders 14-0, in what for four and a half innings had been a tight 2-0 ball game, last Wednesday evening.

Two triples, by Bob D’Ziadosz and Ray Reardon, and a smashing four-batter by Hurler Frank Papa featured the Kiwanis rally in which the Kiwanians went all the way through the order twice, stranding three, when the inning finally ended.

The game started off quietly enough, though both teams put on fair sized attacks in the first frame.

With two out in the top of the first, Dick Fitzgerald singled and Mel Lewis followed with a double, sending him to third. Kiwanis hurler Papa rose to the occasion, though, and fanned Jeff Porter for his third strike-out of the inning.

In their half of the first, Kiwanis came up with a pair of tallies as Bob D’Ziadosz, in the lead-off spot, was on via an error at third and scored on Mort Lefkowitz’s two-bagger. The next two batters went out, but Dave Dorman came through with a double to bring Lefkowitz home.

From there on in, the contest was scoreless until Kiwanis erupted in the fifth.

Only seven hits were included in the Kiwanian attack, and they were evenly spread through the batting order, but of those, five were extra base blows, and Pastore helped things along with ten big errors.

Mel Lewis got two of the only three safeties which Pastore was able to account for, clubbing a double and a single in three official at-bats.
