Rutherford Little League History: 1952

Rutherford Little League receives two charters from Williamsport, for National and American leagues. The original four sponsors form the National League, while the American League consists of American Legion, Elks, Lions, and Pasquin Motors (a Ford dealer). All eligible players become free agents, and a new draft is held to re-constitute the league.

The season begins 30-May (Decoration Day) and runs 18 games. Games are played both at Rutherford Field and on a field behind Rutherford High School.

In September 1952, ground is broken for a new field in the recently dedicated Rutherford Memorial Park. A pre-fabricated building that had served as veterans’ re-settlement housing after World War II is moved to the site to serve as the League's clubhouse. The building was used until 1982.
