Herr-Baker Field was built in 2013 for the Marian University Sabres, who were first coached into the NCAA Division 3 baseball tournament by Ron Herr. The Baker family, longtime donors to St. Marys Springs HS, which is affiliated with the college, are also honored in the naming of the facility.

The Dock Spiders of the college summer Northwoods League also use the park.
