Roberto Hernandez Stadium

Handsome entrance to Roberto Hernandez Stadium, Aug-2011.

Looking in at the seating bowl.

Quick Facts:
Roberto Hernandez, who spent about a decade in Major League Baseball as a relief pitcher (including stints with the Giants, Phillies, and Mets), played college ball at the University of South Carolina at Aiken. (The school is about 55 miles southwest of South Carolina’s main campus in Columbia.) In 2002, he made a sizable donation to his alma mater to have a new baseball stadium constructed on campus, in a new area on the opposite side of Robert M. Bell Drive that also includes the college’s convocation center. The new stadium opened in 2003, and in 2007 it saw professional action as the home of the Aiken Foxhounds in the short-lived independent South Coast League.

I was not able to get into Roberto Hernandez Stadium on my 2011 visit.
