Roar, Lion, Roar

A look at the Satow Stadium seating bowl from down the first-base line.

The opposite angle, from the end zone of Wien Stadium, the football field.

Looking out from behind the plate at Robertson Field, and beyond it the Riverdale section of the Bronx.

Quick Facts:
Baker Field, the complex for Columbia University outdoor sports, opened in 1928, but baseball did not move here until later. Football was played here first. I have not been able to ascertain when the baseball field, located below the football field and along the Spuyten Duyvil section of the Harlem River, was constructed. Besides its view of the Riverdale section of the Bronx, the field is known for a short right-field porch.

The field and stadium received significant upgrades, including artificial turf, around 2008 thanks to donations from two Columbia alumni, to whom the facility is now dedicated.

The complex also includes separate fields for softball and soccer.
