The field honors a victim of the Vietnam War.

One of the largest Little League fields in southern Bergen County, the fence is 200 feet all the way around. There is a slight downward slope to the outfield, especially heading toward the tracks.

In 2009, the League hosted the New Jersey state finals for the Little League Baseball tournament. Somerset Hills Little League, which serves Bernardsville and Bernards Township in Somerset County, won the title and advanced to the regional tournament in Bristol, Conn., defeating Haddonfield (Camden County), 10-5, in the championship game. Nutley East (Essex County) and North Wall (Monmouth County) also participated.

At the start of the 2011 season, signs went up at the field honoring Tommy Adams, a catcher on the Garfield Little League tournament teams through the 2007 season, who suffered a tragic death during an indoor practice in December 2010. Adams was suspected to have died of commotio cordis, a condition that occurs when an object strikes the area near the heart in a specific instant between heartbeats, causing the heart to suddenly stop beating. Several seasons earlier, Steven Domalewski, a 12-year-old pitcher in nearby Wayne, was similarly hit by a batted ball; he was in a coma for a time and became paralyzed as a result.
