Quick Facts:
Valdosta State University has grown from its beginnings as a normal school in the early 20th century to become one of the four regional comprehensive universities in the Georgia state system, placing it one tier below research universities such as the University of Georgia and Georgia Tech.

The baseball and softball fields are located on the North Campus, which hosted Emory Junior College (a two-year division of Emory University) until 1953, when Valdosta State took over the campus.

The field has apparently been named for Billy Grant, the head coach back in the 1960s, since it opened. In 2017, an additional dedication was made as Tommy Thomas Park to honor the head coach who served the school for forty years and led the Blazers to a Division II national championship in 1979. In general, though, the school still refers to the facility as Billy Grant Field.

Metal bleachers surround a natural surface at the ball field, while a sizable press box sits directly behind home plate. There is a berm down the third-base line on which some fans set up folding chairs in order to watch the game.
