Quick Facts:
When professional baseball returned to Colorado Springs in 1950, the Sky Sox, an affiliate of the Chicago White Sox, played here at Spurgeon Field in Memorial Park. The White Sox left town after nine seasons, and the park saw no professional action for three decades. The new Sky Sox, an Indians affiliate, came here in 1988 and played at Spurgeon Field before moving on to the new Sky Sox Stadium in midseason.

College baseball was played at Spurgeon Field in 2017, as the Mountain Lions of the University of Colorado - Colorado Springs played home games at the venerable site. UCCS plans to move its baseball program to a new on-campus facility for 2018. The school only introduced baseball to its athletic program for 2017, hiring Dave Hajek, a one-time Houston Astros infielder who spent a dozen years coaching in the Colorado Rockies organization, as their first coach in late 2015.

In another interesting move, the Pecos League added a team at Spurgeon Field for the 2021 season, placing them in competition with the Rocky Mountain Vibes of the more established Pioneer League, a circuit that was affiliated with Major League Baseball until the downsizing of the minors after the aborted 2020 campaign.
