Exterior of Wasco Recreation Ballpark, Jul-2021.

The main grandstand is mostly covered by a roof and protected by a fence.

Looking out at game play after sunset.

Quick Facts:
Wasco, a small but growing town northwest of Bakersfield, entered the baseball map when this modest facility was tabbed to host a Pecos League team in 2019, during their expansion into California. The addition of teams in the Golden State was prompted by the transfer of the previously affiliated clubs in Bakersfield and Adelanto to the Carolina League for the 2017 season. The independent Pecos League swept in to fill the void, and they created a California division that is scheduled to grow to eight teams for 2021.

This was nothing but a community ballpark until the Reserve came in, and effectively nothing has been upgraded as of my 2021 visit. There are no stadium seats here; both grandstand and bleacher seating are wooden benches. The field is cared for reasonably well but has many rough spots. There appears to be a sort of locker room for the home team, but the visitors dress outside; fortunately, rain is a rarity here during the summer months. The scoreboard is a barely adequate model more appropriate for youth leagues. At least tickets are priced right; admission was only $5 when I showed up. The concession stand features a limited selection, but its prices are also very reasonable.

The field here faces slightly west of southwest, an unusual angle but nowhere near as bad as the situation in nearby Bakersfield, where games start late because of the setting sun shining directly into the eyes of the batter.
