While Notch Road once had a continuous run, it has since been broken up by the construction of NJ 6 (now Route 46) and NJ S-3 (now NJ 3). The westbound lanes of NJ 3 actually use an underpass of Route 46 that was originally part of Notch Road, as does the entrance ramp to Route 46 from Rifle Camp Road. Meanwhile, this orphaned section remains under county control.
