Back in the 1950s, Valley Road did not extend north of Ratzer Road. It was first stretched to the Hamburg Turnpike, and later, in the 1980s, hooked around to meet Berdan Avenue. Church Lane, an older road, was one of two connectors between Ratzer Road and the Hamburg Turnpike (Hinchman Avenue was the other), and it became the county road.
