There is an official break in CR 74 where it meets Kinderkamack Road and New Milford Avenue near the Hackensack River. New Milford Avenue in Oradell has apparently never been a county road, even though historic Route 200 (designated in the 1930s) used it.
West of Farview Ave, CR 61, Midland Avenue continues under the Garden State Parkway and over NJ 17 to Paramus Rd, CR 62. The road then continues, as Grove St, through Ridgewood to a junction with Prospect St, CR S-79. All of this section, including the parts under municipal control, was once proposed as primary route 8.
Most, if not all, of the eastern section (Madison Avenue and Hillside Avenue) is signed as part of primary route 6. The stretch of Madison Avenue between Main Street in New Milford and Washington Avenue is also part of primary route 17.
